Designer Spotlight-The North Face

Known as the coldest and most unforgiving side of a mountain, The North Face, is where the sun does not shine.  Ironically, the idea for The North Face company was born on a beach in California, where the sun always seem to shine.  It was there in 1966 that two hikers dreams to open a shop became a reality and in 1968 the designing and manufacturing of the brand The North Face, consisting of technical mountaineering apparel and equipment, began.  By the 1980s, The North Face became the only suppiler in the U.S. to offer a collection of high-performance outerwear, skiwear, sleeping bags, packs and tents and as the company continued into the next decade with their innovation of Tekware™, The North Face brand became the go-to brand for outdoor enthusiasts.  The research and development process alone is extremely impressive and I have no doubt that The North Face company will continue to grow in popularity through the next 40 years.  Their mission afterall is, “Never Stop Exploring” as they are committed to “push the limits of design, so that you can push your limits outdoors”.  For more information on The North Face or if you are interested in getting more involved outdoors, check out Planet Explore.

So why am I wearing snow boots and posting about The North Face living in a tropical climate?  Well…I guess I just missed the snow.  It may sound crazy, but I do!  Not to mention that it wasn’t that long ago that I was wearing these boots and trudging through blizzard conditions back home.  Thank goodness for my warm North Face boots!

Oh and if you were wondering what does The North Face logo mean?  It’s an interpretation of the Half Dome, a granite rock formation in Yosemite National Park.

Top 25 Wardrobe Essentials-F/W (1-5)

I know, it’s not Monday or Wednesday and it’s certainly not Friday yet, so why am I posting about fashion?  If you are familiar with my blog than you know that I post three outfits a week – a WORK style, a DAY style and a PLAY style.  Recently, however, I was asked to do a post detailing my Top Wardrobe Essentials – the style items that I believe are essential and NECESSARY for every closet.  When I sat down to create my list, I decided to enlist the help of my family and close friends and now have narrowed it down to 25 wardrobe essentials for the Fall and Winter season.  Not only will I continue posting MY ONE HUNDRED each week, but for the next 5 weeks I will be posting MY TOP 25 Wardrobe Essentials for every closet!  Keep in mind however, this is geared to the cooler months.  Now, let’s start with the first FIVE, along with links to pictures where I have styled these items and My Picks to offer advice and suggestions when shopping for your essentials.  Here we go…

1.)  Skinny Jeans – These are a must in your closet to be worn during any season throughout the year!  Not only do they snug in all the right spots, but they tuck perfectly into boots and since they don’t flare, your striking stilettos or studded ballet flats will not be missed!
Styled Here:  Cable-KnitFrye, J-Brand
My Favorite Brands:  J BRAND, PAIGE, EXPRESS, OLD NAVY
To be Worn DAY, PLAY and possibly WORK (depending on your office)

2.)  Diamond/Pearl Studs – A great pair of diamond and/or pearl studs are the key to dressing up any style.  I wear my diamond and pearl studs to work with my suits, out to dinner with denim and a cute blouse and even to the grocery store with flip-flops.  Remember, you don’t have to spend a fortune to grab a pair of diamond or pearl studs.  Check out my recommendations below.
Styled Here:  Red Hat, Winter White, Audrey, 100th
My Favorite Brands:  WHITE HOUSE BLACK MARKET (WHBM), MACY’S, NORDSTROM
To be Worn WORK, DAY and PLAY

3.)  Classic Pumps – Whether you fancy sky-high stilettos or coy kitten heels, classic pumps are a must in any closet!  My go-to pumps for work, day and play are black and nude-colored.  However, I also love to spice it up by wearing red suede pumps, bright blue or even yellow neon pumps.
Styled Here:
Style Wild, Michael Kors, D&G, Savvy
My Favorite Brands GUESS, NINE WEST, JESSICA SIMPSON and of course, CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN
To be Worn
WORK, DAY and PLAY

4.)  Blazer A tailored blazer can polish up any outfit.  Blazers don’t just have to be paired with pencil skirts and dress pants for work.  I throw on my favorite blazer with a pair of skinny jeans, a basic white t-shirt, some classic pumps and a statement necklace for a night out.  During the day, I grab a blazer to pair with a skirt or some shorts and my ballet flats and it’s always my go-to coverup when traveling on a plane.  A blazer can add some class and sophistication to an otherwise boring outfit.
Styled Here:  Breaking Dawn, Blazer, Made in Malaysia, 3.1 Phillip Lim
My Favorite Brands
ZARA, ANN TAYLOR LOFT, J.CREW, VICTORIA’S SECRET
To be Worn
WORK, DAY and PLAY

5.)  White Collared Button-Down A white, collared, button-down shirt is a classic essential piece for your wardrobe.  It not only looks great on everyone, but it’s so versatile.  You can dress it up for work with a pencil skirt and dress pants, or wear it wrapped around a tank top or your favorite bikini on the beach.  It goes with jeans, tucked in or left-out, with boots and a coat in the winter, stilettos and a blazer for a evening out or flip-flops and cut-off shorts.  I love this classic shirt!
Styled Here:  Palm Trees, Sunshine, Knots, Cashmere
My Favorite Brands:  BANANA REPUBLIC, VICTORIA’S SECRET, WHBM, INC
To be Worn:  WORK, DAY and PLAY

For the essentials that I haven’t already styled in MY ONE HUNDRED, stay tuned to see these items styled in future posts to come!

Three Piece

Going to work today I totally looked the part – my role…a women that means business.  The three-piece suit made me feel professional, determined, serious, but still classy and feminine at the same time.  The aviators helped with the kick-butt feeling of the style, but the pearls I added to my ears and my wrist, gave it the feminine touch I still like at work.  The last piece, the silk tie/scarf, I draped loosely around my neck, sprayed some perfume and headed off to the office.   Happy Monday!
