Nightie Night

Last night, I didn’t get a good night of beauty rest.  I woke up with my left eye all scrunched up and creases all over my cheek…probably because I fell asleep completely on the left-side of my face.  Recently, I read that sleeping on your face this way can actually cause wrinkles later in life!  I’m not entirely sure if this is the case, but after doing some online research, I was left wondering…
Evidently, dermatologists have found they can determine which side of your face you sleep on just by looking at you – it’s the side with more visible wrinkles.  The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) cautions that sleeping in certain positions night after night leads to “sleep lines — wrinkles that become etched into the surface of the skin and don’t disappear once you’re up.  Sleeping on your side increases wrinkles on cheeks and chin, while sleeping face-down gives you a furrowed brow.”  Therefore, dermatologists suggest sleeping on your back to increase blood flow and reduce unnecessary sleep lines which leads to wrinkles.  Wow!  So not only are we worried about getting wrinkles from the sun, stress and pollution, but now from sleep!  Ugh!  This is stressing me out just thinking about it.  Anyway, I thought I would share with you some of my suggestions for a good night of “beauty” rest.  Who knows if they help, but they definitely make me feel better in the morning.  Hopefully I will sleep better tonight and I will definitely try sleeping on my back!

1.)  Wash your face before you go to sleep.  Not only does it just feel better against your pillow, but it gets rid of any oil and grime that was left on your face from the day.  Plus your pores will be clog-free.

2.)  Every night after work and before bed, I take a shower.  It actually relaxes me and makes my skin feel cleaner and just better getting into my sheets at night.  Plus, don’t forget to always moisturize.

3.)  At night I apply a face cream, a dab of eye cream, and some vaseline lip gloss on my lips.  I also have a hand moisturizer/lotion bottle next to my bed for my hands.  This has become a nightly routine, just like brushing my teeth.

4.)  I try to start out the night on my back to sleep, but somehow always end up on my side.  If you are a side sleeper like me, try changing your pillowcase to either a satin or silk fabric, instead of cotton.  This will help your face with the crease lines.

And if ALL ELSE FAILS, I can always grab my Holly GoNightly sleep mask!  This mask is great, super comfy and knocks out all the light in the room for a perfectly dreamy night’s sleep.  Look, you might even wake up looking like Audrey Hepburn.  Hey, we can dream!

Straw in Sunshine

In the summer time everyone needs a good straw tote!  Since my favorite color is yellow, especially in the summer time, this bag (Styled below) is one of my favorites!  (Thanks Mom!)  It’s big enough for a towel, a good book and a bottle of water to take to the pool, or to throw a magazine, my sunglasses, wallet and phone to go out to lunch.  Here are some of my favorite picks for summer straw totes:

Spotted-Fluffy Bow ties

Bow ties – a type of men’s necktie – are generally considered to be a man’s accessory, and usually worn only by men.  However, the bow tie has swayed towards the ladies’ side of fashion and can be seen on many women lately, either tied around their neck with a button-down shirt for work, pinned to the top of a halter top (to be styled by me later) or even worn as a choker necklace with a cute dress.  Bow ties can also be seen pinned to blouses and used to cover buttons, as shown on my blouse.

To see some fabulous bow ties, check out Tycoon Neckwear, created by Madelyn Somers.  These bow ties use recycled men’s ties, but add a feminine touch “to create a force of confidence, individuality, and style.”  PLUS, 2% of proceeds go to “Women for Women International,” an organization that provides support for women in war-torn regions.

Time and time again, fashion trends show how what may be fashionable for men, can also be fashionable for women!
