Breaking Dawn

When I left the states to move overseas to Malaysia, I took the book “Twilight” that my mom had given me as a gift.  (Now if you haven’t heard of the Twilight book series or any of the movies, you are really missing out!  So, please, please if you haven’t already, check these books out!)  When I started reading the book, I have to admit, I had already seen the “Twilight” movie.  It had been a while, however, so I figured I would start reading from the beginning and see what all the hype was about.  Plus my mom and sister are completely in love with the books and talk about them frequently.  Therefore, if I wanted to be involved in any of their conversations, I would have to jump on the bandwagon and get reading!

After arriving to my new home in Asia, I found myself compelled to the books every night and couldn’t seem to put them down.  So when Christmas rolled around and I was on my way back to the States, I had finished “Twilight”, “New Moon” (the second book of the series), I had watched both movies and was about to finish “Eclipse” (the third book).  My mom and sister were anxiously awaiting my return so we could finally watch the third movie together.  So shortly after arriving, I literally locked myself in the bedroom to finish the last couple chapters of “Eclipse”.  After reading the last page and closing the book, I jumped off the bed, out of the room and screamed, “I’m finished!!!”  My mom and sister quickly came running from the other room, dove on the couch and I pushed PLAY on the DVD!  After the movie was finished, they gave me my first Christmas gift, the last book in the series, “Breaking Dawn”.  What else!  So of course, this was my reading material for my long trip back home.

Now it’s been almost EIGHT MONTHS since that day and I just finished “Breaking Dawn” last Saturday!  I know, I know, what took me so long, right?!  I’m really not quite sure.  It may have been that I was too busy, maybe I didn’t feel like reading, or maybe I just didn’t want it all to be over.  The Twilight world that I had grown so fond of was finally coming to an end.  So ever-so slowing I finished the last remaining chapters on Saturday afternoon, closing the book with a smile.  I’m glad to be finished, but so sad to say goodbye.  It’s so funny how reading a book can make you feel like you are almost friends with the characters and when the book is over, you actually miss them in your life!  Crazy, I know, but I did love reading the “Twilight” series.  Now what does all this have to do with today’s post you ask?  Well, it has to do with the shoes!  Doesn’t it always!  When I saw these shoes, I just had to have them.  Check out their name and you will know why…of course they are cute, but the name is even better!

I guess I just wanted to hold on to a bit of “Twilight” as I stood outside in the Malaysian morning sun witnessing the last moments of “Breaking Dawn”.

Spotted-Made in Malaysia

When I first arrived in Malaysia, I heard from some of the ladies that there were seamstresses in KL that could look at a picture of a dress you found in a magazine and make it for you!  So of course, I jumped at the chance to take a meeting with one of my friend’s favorite seamstresses, my notes and magazine clippings in hand.  I showed her a picture of a Jill Stuart dress that I loved and told her I was unable to find it online.  She nodded as I said, “Do you think you can make a dress like this for me?”  She pulled out her measuring tape and within 2 minutes had already gathered all the information she needed from my waist, hips, length, sleeves, bust, etc. to create this dress!  Next, she said, “We go fabric shopping.”  So the following weekend, we headed down to Chinatown where I walked up and down the aisles of my seamstresses’ favorite fabric shop looking for a similar print to match the picture.  I couldn’t find the exact fabric, of course, but I found something pretty darn close!

So after choosing the fabric and ensuring all the measurements were to my liking, I went on my merry way.  Within less than 2 months, my new dress was finished and it looked beautiful.  MADE IN MALAYSIA.

Stairs versus Escalator

I had to share this video!  What a neat way to change peoples’ attitude and behavior about taking the stairs versus riding the escalator.  Now everyone gets more exercise!  What an amazing idea!

Have a great day!

(Thanks to a very special woman for passing this along.)
