Spotted-Made in Malaysia

When I first arrived in Malaysia, I heard from some of the ladies that there were seamstresses in KL that could look at a picture of a dress you found in a magazine and make it for you!  So of course, I jumped at the chance to take a meeting with one of my friend’s favorite seamstresses, my notes and magazine clippings in hand.  I showed her a picture of a Jill Stuart dress that I loved and told her I was unable to find it online.  She nodded as I said, “Do you think you can make a dress like this for me?”  She pulled out her measuring tape and within 2 minutes had already gathered all the information she needed from my waist, hips, length, sleeves, bust, etc. to create this dress!  Next, she said, “We go fabric shopping.”  So the following weekend, we headed down to Chinatown where I walked up and down the aisles of my seamstresses’ favorite fabric shop looking for a similar print to match the picture.  I couldn’t find the exact fabric, of course, but I found something pretty darn close!

So after choosing the fabric and ensuring all the measurements were to my liking, I went on my merry way.  Within less than 2 months, my new dress was finished and it looked beautiful.  MADE IN MALAYSIA.
