Spotted-Silk with an Edge

It’s always fun mixing up my professional silk blouses with some dressy shorts for a night out.  This silk blouse reminds me of a tuxedo…I love how it makes me feel dressy and formal.  But when adding the shorts, it adds a bit of fun and sexiness to the style.  Mixing blacks with blues may be a trend now, but I have always loved this look – combining two of my favorite colors.  When adding a clutch, I chose a darker color to ensure I didn’t draw any attention away from the bright-colored shorts.  However, I do love how the skull and crossbones detailed on the leather adds a bit of edge to an otherwise classic ensemble.

Travel-Australia, Bondi Beach

Visiting Bondi Beach ten years after my first trip to Australia was a wonderful experience.  It’s still as beautiful as I remember it, even on this gloomy day.  Know that these pictures do not do it justice!  I almost pulled out my pictures from ten years ago to show you the beach in its full glory during the summer time with lots of sunshine and tons of beach goers, but these pictures are of course not digital and wouldn’t show up as nicely if I tried to scan them.  So instead just imagine Bondi in these pictures with a little more sun and a lot more people.  To be honest…I kind of liked it quiet and chilly on this winter day in Australia.

img_9877img_9908Bondi Beach or “Boondi” is actually an Aboriginal word that means “water breaking over rocks” or noise of water breaking over rocks.  One of the most popular beaches in the Sydney suburbs, Bondi is known for its surfers and sunshine.  It’s also a bit famous around the world too.  In 2007, the largest swimsuit photo shoot was set at Bondi Beach with 1,010 women wearing bikinis – it’s even in the Guinness Book of World Records!  Bondi Beach also hosted the beach volleyball competition for the 2000 Summer Olympics.  So with its sand, sun and surf AND being the closest beach to the city center, Bondi is frequented by surfers EVEN during work on their lunch breaks.

Of course, I took my LOUBOUS…they traveled with me for three weeks all over Australia and Asia.  I can’t wait to share some more Shoe Sights with you along the way!

The Bondi Icebergs pool has been a Bondi Beach landmark for over 100 years and is the only licensed Winter Swimming Club in the world!  This 50 meter pool is made of solid rock and filled with the ocean’s salt water, which continuously crashes into the pool refilling it with every wave.  The club was formed by a band of dedicated local lifesavers who wanted to maintain their fitness during the winter months.  This band formed the Bondi Icebergs and drew up in their constitution that in order to maintain membership each swimmer had to compete each month on three Sundays out of four, for a period of five years.

Designer Spotlight-Ralph Lauren

I laugh because whenever I wear this Ralph Lauren shirt, people always seem to say to me, “Excuse me, I think you have some mustard on your sleeve.”  It never fails!  I just smile and say, “Oh no, that’s the little Ralph Lauren pony logo,” or sometimes I just smile and say, “OH NO, thanks!”  No matter, I love this shirt and have always loved Ralph Lauren.  When most people think of the Ralph Lauren brand, pronounced Lo-WREN, they think of polo shirts and rightfully so…since Ralph Lauren’s first brand, which was launched in 1967, was named Polo.  But the Ralph Lauren brand is much, much more than Polo today!  The brand encompasses the Collection, Black Label, Blue Label (MY Personal Favorite!), RLX, Lauren, Denim and Supply and last but not least, Golf…and these are just the women’s lines!  The men’s lines include Purple Label, Black Label, Polo Ralph Lauren, RLX, RRL, Denim and Supply, Polo Golf, and Rugby Ralph Lauren for both men and women.  Not to mention the Ralph Lauren children, baby and home brands.  Plus there are even RL restaurants!  I have been to the one in Chicago…it’s so cozy and lovely, just like you would picture the house of someone in Ralph Lauren’s family to be.  It’s amazing what began forty years ago with a collection of ties, has grown into an entire empire (12 billion dollar empire to be exact) that is known for “redefining American style”.  Now, you can bring the world of Ralph Lauren into your home by shopping online, visiting your neighborhood department store or traveling to one of Ralph Lauren’s 452 stores located in over 80 countries.  Hey, there is even a store here in Malaysia!  I always love going into a Ralph Lauren store because while I’m shopping I never feel like I’m actually shopping…I feel like I have stepped into someone’s home and they are showing me around their rooms and their closets.  It’s evident that Ralph Lauren doesn’t just exude his style through his clothing, it’s throughout the development of his stores and his entire brand as a whole.  One of my favorite quotes from Ralph Lauren is, “Style is very personal.  It has nothing to do with fashion.  Fashion is over quickly.  Style is forever.”  So with that, please enjoy my DAY Style below featuring today’s Designer Spotlight, Ralph Lauren.
