Walk About Wan Chai

Walking around our neighborhood of Wan Chai this past Sunday, we took along the camera to capture some of the local scenery right near our house.  As we walked down the hill towards the main strip, we took a side street, which we have named our “weekend walk” and here are some of the pics we took…

To the right of me in this picture the street is lined with auto part shops, a watch shop, a school, a meat market and this one shop – my favorite.  It seems to have just about everything from fan parts to old wooden golf clubs.  The owner sits out in front on the weekends in his chair in front of his old T.V. and works on gadgets.

As you move further down Stone Nullah Lane in Wan Chai, you come to the Blue House.  The Blue House is a historic four storey building in Wan Chai…one of the few remaining examples of Tong Lau (tenement structure built in the late 19th centry to the 1960s).  All the upper floors of the Blue House are timber structures and have been well preserved during the restoration project completed in 2011.

Just a quick glimpse into one part of our neighborhood.  I hope you have a great day!

I like your favorite shop, it would be impossible to see everything, too much hanging from the ceiling, Ha!

What an interesting area with the tradtional architecture and coloured buildings. These quirky little shops are always fascinating places too.

That store looks great :) I love things like that, too! I missed your previous post, but I was so tired yesterday (even my post yesterday was scheduled!) I could see the amazing green skirt now – I love your style!
Really beautiful this part of the city, with colorful houses – I loved the blue house and the story behind it!

Thanks for sharing about Wan Chai with us. In a few parts of Asia, there are quite a few of these multi-purpose shop. It’s amazing how these people work their whole life in this small space yet very functional =)
You look good in that green skirt.
