Travel-Historic Macau and City of Dreams

For our anniversary, my hubby and I took the hydrofoil over to Macau just for a quick day trip.  On our first trip to Macau posted about here (fun pics) and here (fun facts), we did Macau the “Vegas-way”.  On this trip, we visited the historical section and did Macau the “touristy-way”.  After a bit of sightseeing, I was surprised with an amazing show and one of my favorite dinners before heading back to Hong Kong Island.  I hope you enjoy some of our pictures.

As the ferry pulled away from Hong Kong, I looked out the window hoping for better weather when we reached Macau.

We enjoyed our little “snack” – a cup of water, a box of tofu and a plate of hot noodles.

Arriving in Macau, we spotted the Sands Hotel out the window…unfortunately, my hopes of sunshine and blue skies didn’t become a reality.

Luckily, the day brightened up a bit as we headed to Historic Macau.  Settled as a Portuguese colony, Macau was administered by Portugal from the mid-16th century until 1999.  The buildings in this square were reminiscent of our time in Brussels.

My hubby was brave and decided to experience some of the local cuisine.

After our walking tour, we headed to the City of Dreams to see “The House of Dancing Water”.  I have to admit, this was one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen!  It’s like Cirque Du Soleil combined with an Olympic diving and swimming event, combined with a Broadway musical!  I can’t say enough about how amazing it was!

The House of Dancing Water is housed in a purpose-built theater designed with many breakthroughs including a stage pool that holds a record-breaking 3.7 million gallons of water, equivalent to 5 Olympic-sized swimming pools.”

I was disappointed when it ended, but excited to head to dinner for my favorite – Peking Duck!  (More on my love of Peking Duck.)  Who would have known how much I would like duck?!  I guess “When in China”…

The night ended with an anniversary treat – two sweet dumplings.  We grabbed a taxi back to the ferry and were back in Hong Kong before midnight.

Thanks for following along in our adventures.  Happy Thursday!
