Pretty Pewter

Whenever we have the opportunity to see a far off place, we always find out “What is the “must-buy thing” in  ____?  For instance, Vietnam is famous for its porcelain, black lacquer pieces and egg-shell art, Hong Kong for its designer goods, pearls and traditional Chinese gifts, Thailand for its silk, carved wood and orchids and Malaysia for its batik and pewter.  Pewter in itself isn’t the prettiest…it’s a bit dull, gray, heavy and can be hard to decorate with around your house.  Nonetheless, I’ve always wanted to purchase a pewter piece as a memory before leaving KL.  I never imagined, however, that I would be given such a beautiful piece of pewter from a dear friend of mine.  This necklace will not only remind me of my time in Malaysia, but of our friendship and somehow the dull gray look of pewter has become so pretty!
