Going to the Chapel

No matter where you travel in the world, people are always getting married.  Love doesn’t speak another language, it just exists, and the feeling of love is almost palpable while walking down Jalan SS2/24 in Petaling, Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.  This past weekend, I ventured outside of KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) and drove about 20 minutes to Petaling Jaya or PJ to visit some of the wedding shops down Jalan (Road) SS2/24.  The pictures that I took outside de Casamia Bridal Gallery were my favorite.  (Yes, these pictures were taken in Malaysia!)  Right there off the main highway sits a patch of grass lined by a white picket fence where an old bicycle sits carrying a bundle of fresh flowers.  As you continue to approach the main door of the gallery, an English-style telephone booth greets all engaged couples, reminding them that they are now part of a fairy tale world, where anything is possible.  To the left, a white, baby grand piano is perched quietly under the slanted roof of the building, ever so slightly peeking into the sunlight.  The fountain trickles in the background and I am calmed as I approach the main glass doors, painted with white trim.  It’s time to plan a wedding.

This “wedding road” in PJ is every bride’s dream offering anything and everything a bride and groom could want for their wedding day.  The de Casamia Bridal Gallery is just one of the galleries lining this road in PJ.  These galleries offer everything from rental and made-to-measure gowns, suits and bridesmaid’s dresses, to make-up and hair experts, to pre-wedding and wedding day photography.  The pre-wedding photography, to me, is the most interesting.  This is how the bicycle, baby grand piano and English-style phone booth come back into play.  Most of these galleries offer areas outside of their shops, behind or inside studios where you can play and pretend to be anywhere in the world.  Backdrops are provided which magically transport you to a far-off destination, or why not just grab your photographer and travel to Bali?!  The bridal galleries will offer this service as well!  And what about changing into three, four or eight different gowns?  You can do this too!  The sky’s the limit when visiting these galleries down “wedding road”!

Now take a walk with me down the road as we plan our fairy tale wedding…Malaysian-style.

Next Tuesday, I will share some pictures of a real wedding that I attended right here in Malaysia.  The bride’s color was purple as well.

To check out some of the galleries that I visited, please see these links below.  Some of their pictures are amazing!
