Designer Spotlight-Christian Louboutin

Each week, I would like to do what I call a “Designer Spotlight” featuring one specific designer and my favorites from their collection.  For my first week, I find it most fitting to pick my FAVORITE designer right now and probably forever – Christian Louboutin. Now, he’s my favorite of course because of HIS SHOES!  What a genius to actually come up with a way to distinguish your shoe from any other shoe worn on the street!  You may own a pair of Prada shoes or even Manolo, but no other shoe has the patented design of a LOUBOU (my new name for Christian Louboutin’s – pronounced loo-boo-tan).  So what distinguishes them from any other shoe you may ask, well…it’s the RED SOLE!  These red-lacquered soles have become the designer’s signature as Christian Louboutin filed an application for U.S. trademark protection of his red sole design in 2007.  Now, once you see the red sole, you’ll know for sure it’s a LOUBOU!  So second question, how will I see the red sole, if it’s on the bottom of the shoe?  Believe me, you will see it!  First of all, most of these wonderful shoes are made in heels – awe fabulous heels – which allows for the ever-so slightly, peek-a-boo of the red sole as the red color is carried up through the long, slender heel (which is usually at least 5 inches high).  Hence, the red is sure not to be missed!  Secondly, any girl that owns these shoes should be very proud and therefore will take the opportunity to sit gracefully at her chair, cross her leg over the other and bob her foot up to expose the magic!  Every girl must be proud of her Loubous!  I sure am proud of mine especially since they cost a pretty penny and my husband made me promise that I would take very special care of them.  They were a birthday present – my first and maybe only pair of Loubous – so I will wear them with pride as I take each stride secretly smiling at the sound of my red soles clicking down the pavement.

I look forward to my shoes “carrying me off on magical days and fanciful nights”.

Falling for Floppy

Today, I’m missing my furry UGGs back home in the States.  When I moved out to KL, I did bring them with me…it was actually hard for me to even think about placing them in storage for two years.  Especially after growing up my entire life in the Northeast, which consisted of a definite change of seasons, nine months out of the year actually being COLD weather.  Years ago when I noticed every other girl with a pair on their feet, I vowed I wouldn’t succumb to the trend.  But after slipping one boot on my feet after opening a gift one cold Christmas morning, I quickly changed my mind and found myself trying to squeeze this staple style item into my everyday wardrobe.  But now, sadly, the UGGs are left back with my parents after a return home to the States (I couldn’t fit them into my luggage on the way back to KL).  And today, I’m missing them.  But with the warm climate and humidity here in KL, the stares I would receive (not to mention the sweat I would endure) would be endless.  So I settle on perusing through the cute summer hats online instead (via one of my favorite sites Polyvore), picking out some of my favorites below.  What’s your favorite hat to wear in the hot, summer weather?

The Beginning…

When I was about seven or eight years old, my sister and I would spend hours playing with my mom’s old fabric suitcase.  This suitcase, considered now to be ‘vintage’ was plaid patterned with brown stitching and smelled faintly of my mom’s perfume.  The best part, however, was that my sister and I could fit comfortably inside!  It had a front zipper that could be zipped from the inside-out to aid us when we would climb in before pushing each other around the house and giggling the entire ride.  Of course my mom was always standing by to ensure that we kept the zipper open half-way, for quick evacuation and of course we thought, to allow for a better view.  But our main concern was ensuring our dresses and pretty nightgowns wouldn’t get wrinkled or caught in the zipper…we loved playing in dress-up clothes, especially my grandmother’s old silk, chiffon night gowns – they were the softest.  Hey, if we were going somewhere with our luggage, of course we had to look nice.  How funny it is looking back on how much fun we used to have playing with that silly suitcase…I wonder whatever happened to it…

Who would have known years later, how much luggage would become such a huge part of my life as I became destined for new adventures.  My biggest adventure thus far began eight months ago, when my husband and I left the east coast of the US and moved our life overseas to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  For almost three months, I worked tirelessly to fit my essentials (which to my disappointment did not include my shoe collection) into four small pieces of luggage for our journey to the opposite side of the world.  In this time, our life overseas has been full of many experiences while traveling, discovering new foods and cultures, and most importantly exploring new sides of fashion.  I may not be wearing my mom’s dresses or my grandma’s nightgowns while flying through the house in a vintage suitcase, but it sure has felt like the ride of my life.  I hope you enjoy being a part of my adventures, while trying to look good in…Wrinkled Chiffon.
