One of the top “things to do” along with a major tourist destination in Kuala Lumpur is to visit the Bird Park.  At first I thought, “What’s so great about a bird park?”  But after hearing rave reviews from friends and colleagues here in Kuala Lumpur about this tourist hotspot, I realized I should definitely check it out.  That’s just what I did when my family came to visit a few months ago and I’m so glad we did!  Visiting the bird park in Kuala Lumpur is definitely a must-see when visiting Malaysia.

First of all, the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is the world’s largest free-flight, walk-in aviary, which basically means 1.) you can walk around the park while the birds fly above you or walk along side you 2.) you better wear a hat!  Entering into the park, I was amazed about how it all worked!  Here we were surrounded by towering green trees and waterfalls with the KL skyline right behind us, while a massive net extended high above our heads draping the length of the park.  Below are some of my favorite pictures taken during our visit.

As mentioned above, the main feature that distinguishes the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park from any other is the concept of free-flight.  It’s like entering a live tropical rainforest and becoming a part of the wildlife experience.  The free-flight concept allows for the birds to breed naturally, create nesting sites and ensures the survival of the species, while also allowing for an amazing experience for those entering the bird park.

A famous member of the bird park…the hornbill.  These birds are native to the tropical and subtropical parts of Africa, Asia and Melanesia.  We were lucky to spot quite a few during our visit.

Leaving the park, we looked up to glimpse one last bird perched high above us in the trees, while the KL Tower sat perfectly situated for the picture in the background.
