Travel-Hong Kong, Hiking in the New Territories

Hiking is a very popular activity in Hong Kong.  You would never think it, but Hong Kong is covered with natural parks, beaches, mountains and tons of hiking trails.  Not only is hiking a great form of exercise, but it’s a wonderful escape from the city.  This past weekend we ventured north of Hong Kong Island to the New Territories and explored another section of Hong Kong.

The hiking trail started out pretty high up in the mountains.  This was our first shot looking out at the landscape.  This body of water is a natural reservoir created by damning off two sections of the South China Sea.

Continuing along our hike…

Passing through a little “town”.

Approaching our first stop at the beach.

It was a beautiful stop to make.  Surfers were trying their luck at a few waves.

Sadly, the beaches along this path were heavily polluted with trash…it was heartbreaking.  We were told that the trash is washed up on the beaches from mainland China.

Pressing on, we viewed the steep path ahead as we made our way to the next beach.

Visitors crossing the paths…these cows were everywhere!  They live peacefully in the park.

Our lunch stop…in the middle of nowhere, literally!  But they still managed to have amazing vegetable fried rice…only in Asia!

After climbing over 300 cement stairs on our path back towards home, this was our view.  Hong Kong you surprise me more and more each day.

Have a great Thursday!
